Unless Something Unexpected Happens, I'll Continue Using Windows Computers

My sibling's new laptop

As I mentioned on my Naver blog yesterday, my younger sibling picked up a new laptop they ordered from an Apple store. Since they're the only one in our family who uses an iPhone, I think they considered things like compatibility, a compact size that suits them perfectly, and a sleek design. They've used Windows 7 for almost thirteen years, so adapting to a completely different operating system will likely take a few days, maybe even a week.

That made me realize how amazing my sibling is. Aside from the financial aspect, the willingness to try something new feels really commendable. I've only ever used Windows and Galaxy products, but because I'm very interested in IT gadgets, I'm not without curiosity about Apple products. However, when I watch related YouTube videos, even the terminology is so unfamiliar, and I generally encounter many difficulties in understanding.

And honestly, my memory of Macs is that they're inconvenient and have worse designs than Windows. The latter is a matter of personal preference, so please don't throw stones... Anyway, the inconvenience is the biggest reason I haven't switched. Actually, in university, I had a few opportunities to use computers in the school's MIDI lab. I didn't work on music, mostly just checked Cyworld (a Korean social networking service), and thought, 'It's different from what I use at home? It's inconvenient?' That was my exact feeling.

Only later did I realize that computer was a Mac, and since then, I've never really used a Mac in my daily life. So, when I needed a computer, I completely excluded Macs and only looked for Windows.

Before that, I had a laptop brought from Korea, but it's been ten years since I got a computer for my own exclusive use. That was just a month after Windows 10 was released. But I pressed the touchscreen too hard with my finger, and the seams started to break. At the end of 2019, my mom accidentally damaged it while cleaning the house, so I ended up with my current desktop.

My desk two years ago

I bought it with Windows 10, but upgraded to 11 in June 2021 and have been using it well since. There are rumors that Windows 12 will be released later this year or early next year, but I'm not sure if that's true. Whether it's upgraded or not, I'm 100%, no, 1000% satisfied with my current environment, so even if it doesn't happen, I won't be greatly disappointed.

After yesterday's incident(?), I wondered, if someone gave me a MacBook for free, could I use it well? This odd question popped up. Instead of a 'I can do it' challenge spirit, the thought of 'I'm completely used to Windows shortcuts, and learning new things will just stress me out' dominated my mind, so I concluded that I shouldn't even think about it.

Having curiosity and interest isn't a bad thing. And when you're in a new environment, you're bound to adapt. But having used one product for a long time, you're practically its slave, so you can't change your habits and routines overnight. Therefore, I will continue to use Windows computers and Samsung smartphones unless the sky falls.
