I, due to an innate disability, cannot cook at all. The only thing I can do properly is boil ramen, and even then, I can't do things like adding a beaten egg or chopped green onions; I only know how to boil the ramen itself. For other dishes, I heat up whatever my family has prepared beforehand.

Yesterday, I received an order(?) from my mother. For dinner, she told me to boil ramen in the leftover kimchi stew pot, adding an appropriate amount of water. So, following my mother's instructions, I adjusted the amount of water, dissolved the seasoning in the water before turning on the gas, and added the noodles once the water boiled, stirring occasionally until it was done.

Since I always eat ramen with my father for dinner, I naturally needed two packs. Today's pick is...!!

Jin Ramen Mild and Spicy

The cooking result was a success. While eating the ramen, my father kept praising me, saying that everything, from the amount of broth to the saltiness, was simply perfect. So I jokingly said, "At my age, if I can't even do this basic thing, I'm in big trouble!"

Then, I suddenly thought of meal kits and talked about them while we ate. Actually, I don't know exactly what a meal kit is; I've only seen it mentioned a few times on the news. My understanding is that it's a set of cooking ingredients that are pre-packaged and carefully prepared so that you can easily cook them immediately after buying them.

So, I concluded with my father that people like me, who can't cook at all, can easily use them. In fact, tonight's dinner could also be considered a kind of meal kit, a combination of my mother's kimchi stew + ramen from the supermarket + my mother's verbal instructions.

I'm living happily with my family now, but someday I will become independent in some form. When that time comes, I think I'll miss my mother's homemade kimchi, her carefully made rice cakes, my mother's cooking, and my mother's home-cooked meals very much.
