Having tried numerous popular Korean blogs and quickly grown tired of them, I stumbled upon durumis on Threads, a discovery that felt like an oasis in the desert—a thrill and genuine joy at the end of desperation. I carried over the framework of my Tistory blog, which I had barely managed to keep running until the end of last year, to this new space, including the blog URL and name and basic settings. Here, I've resolved to share more insightful stories about my life here that I couldn't fully express on Brunch. Of course, within the limits of my privacy.
Some may question my Japanese-sounding nickname, but I've already explained it in detail on Tistory and Medium, so I won't elaborate further here. Instead, please look at the Bluesky screenshots from over a year of operation and understand the intentions and mindset I want to convey through my writing using Chinese characters (Kanji).
For my first post, a brief introduction: I am a Korean-American, 17 years in the US, originally from Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. (But its population is dropping below one million, so it's about to lose its special city status! ;;;;). I completed all my coursework in Korea, leaving before the graduation ceremony and immigrating to the US. In the US, I improved my English through continuing education programs. I study Japanese as a hobby every day (and am also interested in Japanese culture), and I'm currently unemployed due to various physical and mental disabilities. If the state government demands I return to work in exchange for maintaining my current health insurance, I plan to transition to telecommuting using my completed technical writing certificate.
I already operate Medium and Livedoor, and I just posted on Livedoor. Experiencing durumis, which offers translation in 18 languages using AI, for the first time feels new. This feeling is even more exciting than being accepted as a Brunch writer on my first try. I'm thrilled that my writing can reach people of various nationalities worldwide, but I'm also a little apprehensive. Since this is my first post, I'll keep it light. I'm not sure if I can maintain a daily post, but I will do my best.
By the way, similar to how the owner of a YouTube channel I subscribe to declared one video a day, I, being the same age, will also strive to keep up a daily posting with a renewed determination starting today. I know, I know, it'll probably be a three-day wonder. But I have to start somewhere to stay focused and do it properly.
