I learned about the British composer John Rutter through a choral class in college. I listened to his Requiem in its entirety and even sang several of his representative pieces in choir. Although I majored in composition and almost hated contemporary music, I surprisingly didn't find his works difficult or inaccessible, and that remains true to this day.
He frequently shares updates on his activities, daily life, and new works through social media. I own one of his piano score books, which I purchased after seeing his advertisement and promotion on his SNS. I even performed one of the pieces as a piano solo recital.
While he has many wonderful pieces, today I'd like to share one of his most widely known sacred songs. Although the world is currently devastated by war and natural disasters, I chose this piece with the hope that one day, God's warmth, peace, and comfort will reach everyone, and that the world will once again be a heaven filled with beauty and love.
